Why do good things happen to bad people? Why do bad things happen to good people? Why did you have to go through all that you went through? Why did that person leave the relationship? Why did that loved one have to die? Why did I have to fail that exam? Why did I have to wait 4 years before getting the promotion?
I wish I could say I had the answer to these questions and I wish I could say that you would eventually find out why while we are in this world but … I don’t know why it happened and we may never know why till we meet Jesus.
Sometimes, you expect God to act in a certain way, but He does not and we get confused because suddenly He does not fit into the box our subconscious minds have put Him in. He does things that sometimes seem, “totally out of character” and at such times, we feel silly because we really thought we knew Gods plan. It can be confusing frustrating too.
That is why He is God and we are not. He has the sovereign right to do whatever He wants. He answers to no one, and He does not have to do what we want or think. He is no respecter of persons. He is God all by Himself. He does not need me or you to make Him who He is. I must admit…this way of thinking about God makes Him seem a little…distant… and even…scary
But think about it, if you had an ant for a pet (not that you ever would), and you love it so much that you took time out to map out great plans for it. Despite your love for this precious ant of yours, you cannot always explain to it all the amazing plans you have for it. Unfortunately, sometimes it would not understand what you are doing but all it needs to do… and all you really want it to do is to trust you. How do you explain to this dear ant that sometimes in order to get to the best place for its life, it might have to pass through some painful experiences? Its mind is way too small to comprehend such complexities.
It is the same with us and God. We are like the ant. We cannot always understand God’s plans or reasons for doing things or not doing them. Some things just don’t and may never make sense but we need to make peace with it. We need to accept that we may never understand it, but believe that God is a loving Father and He is in control. We must trust that all His plans are for our good. So be comfortable in your ignorance. You don’t have to understand everything. Do not be frustrated because you know the One who knows everything, and you know His plans towards you are good.
… Relax and trust
