Why God is not in a hurry

I find myself wondering every now and then, “If only God could just move faster…”

But fortunately or unfortunately, God is not in a hurry. This is the truth, however uncomfortable it might sound. God is not in a hurry.

Well, how can He be though? We humans are in a hurry because we believe that we are ‘constrained’ by time, but God is not constrained by time. He lives outside time. He controls time. This is why He cannot be in a hurry – nothing constrains Him.

I know sometimes we wish God would just move a bit faster because we have deadlines, start dates,  due dates and ‘ultimatums’. We even have what we call our ‘biological clocks’. More times than not, God does not work with our timing. He works with His. He will not be too early neither will He be late. He does things at the right time, the Kairos time –  when that thing He does will be the best it can be.

Sometimes we try to rush God, we even give Him ultimatums like He owes us something. But God does what He wants at the time He wants to do it…at the time that is right! You may not be sure of God’s timing but you can bet your life on the fact that He would do what He promised.

Lazarus was ill and his sisters sent for Jesus. They informed Jesus at that time (while Lazarus was ill) because it was a critical time and they knew that if that critical time passed and nothing was done, there was no hope. Once their brother had died, he had died. Death was final. So they cried out to Jesus before it was too late. Jesus gave His word …”this sickness is not unto death.”

But Lazarus died.

Four days later Jesus headed for Lazarus’ house. Four days!  Lazarus was definitely dead.
But was he…?
According to our own sense of time and the way we see the world, Lazarus’ time had ended.

But God…!

God who defies the laws of nature, God who controls the times and the seasons said  “Lazarus, come forth.” And Lazarus was raised to life.

I am wondering if you have given up on any promise of God because you think it’s too late. You think if God was going to do something, He should have done it a long time ago. Well, I’ve got news for you. Once God says it, it has no choice but to happen. His timing may be different from ours but it will happen. It does not matter if the dream is dead or the situation is impossible to get out of. Once God says it is, it is. Your job is to keep believing and keep trusting.

Hold on. It will happen. “For the promise is for an appointed time. It will surely come and it will not delay.”
